My Story
I first became introduced to chiropractic care when I was 12 years old and suffering with what I now know to be childhood migraines. These headaches were so severe that I used to crawl into bed, window shades down, covers over my head and pressing ear-muffs over my ears praying these would drown out the pounding feeling I had in my head.
Of course as a child I didnβt realize this was a concern and thought these headaches happened to everyone. My parents consulted my pediatrician who immediately prescribed a variety of tests and appointments with numerous specialists, all who failed to diagnose the cause of my headaches. In the end my pediatrician told my parents that nothing was wrong, that the problem was all in my head and that I was probably using headaches as an excuse to not do my homework.
Luckily one day I accompanied my father to one of his regular chiropractic appointments. The doctor took one look at me and knew I was suffering. He offered to do a complete history and examination, and what he found was surprising.
I had several areas of stress in my spine (subluxations) that could have stemmed from micro-traumas from childhood falls and exacerbated with a minor motor vehicle accident that occurred several years prior. He explained that these stresses reduce how well the brain is able to control the body and unless corrected, they lead to symptoms which in my case were my headaches. The doctor then recommended we remove these stresses on the nervous system in order to facilitate better communication between the brain and the body and that would enable me to regain control and heal my headaches all on my own without medications or surgery. His treatment for this was a chiropractic adjustment.
Well since I had nothing to lose and no other options, we decided to give it a try. My first adjustment is one I will remember and appreciate for the rest of my life. I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders as that one gentle movement cured me of my childhood migraines. It was the result of this healing miracle that, at the age of 12, I made it my lifeβs goal to become a chiropractor, to help people recognize the healing potential within them the same way Dr. MacKay helped me recognize it in me.
As I write this story I reflect on the assumptions my family had about health. We thought if we looked good and felt good then we were healthy. That if we ate well, slept well and were happy we were healthy. And if we managed stress well, had supportive social networks and didnβt smoke or drink we were healthy. But the reality is many of the leading causes of death in our society take years if not decades to develop, and when people find out itβs often too late. Think of heart disease, cancer and diabetes β you donβt feel your arteries thickening, the cancer growing or the hormonal imbalances until years later when you get your first symptom.
Now some 30 years later I still shake my head thinking about my experience and wonder how many others are frustrated with a symptom or a health concern and are told there is nothing wrong because their lab work is normal or their imaging studies are clear? They know there is something functionally wrong but it has not progressed enough to show up on diagnostic tests. But their bodyβs innate wisdom is giving them clues that something is off balance. The warning sign may be a bit of pain here, a digestive problem there, low energy, poor sleep, numbness, hormone imbalance, painβ¦ you name your symptom.
So I ask when is it alright to ignore your inner voice and accept nothing is wrong just because you canβt verify it on a test? When is it ok to have stress on your delicate communication pathways reducing your ability to send messages from your brain to every single cell, tissue, organ and system in your body thereby reducing their overall function? And when is it ok to slow or restrict the feedback from the body back to the brain? Do you wait until it becomes serious or do you listen to your inner wisdom guiding you that something is out of sync and you are not living life to your full potential?
Do you think itβs possible to have 100% function of every part of your body?
Do you think you are capable of living your full potential?
And most importantly do you think you are worthy of living such a life?
There is no doctor smarter than you and no doctor that works harder than you to be healthy. You have the wisdom within to heal your body to perfection.
And maybe if you like, I can help you get started.
Dr. Nenshi has been invaluable during my pregnancy and postpartum journey, as well as treating my little baby girl. During pregnancy, she was able to help with low back and pelvis/hip pain, which significantly improved my quality of life during those last months. Postpartum she has been incredibly helpful with the aches and pains I have had due to breastfeeding, as well as improving the actual process of breastfeeding by waking up my nervous system. In regards to my newborn, she was able to help with some serious gas and digestion problems - which improved her mood and sleep tremendously! While treating her for those pesky tummy problems, she also noticed that she was favouring turning her neck to the left side and struggling with turning to the right. She was able to fix that as well, before it turned into more serious problems. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Nenshi for almost all pains during your prenatal, postnatal and newborn journey :). She gives great care to her patients (young and old), and can usually see you with short notice. She is now seeing multiple members of my family.
My lovely bride of 36 years developed painful sciatic, hip, and foot pain that eventually became almost debilitating to her. 3 months with Dr. Nenshi ( 4-5 visits?) and she is now pain free. We are so grateful to her, itβs been a quality of life miracle.
I just want to mention how wonderful Dr. Nenshi is! She is more than just a chiropractor. Her neurological knowledge is exceptional! She was so thorough in her assessment during our first meeting that it took a couple of hours. Her caring, commitment and compassion goes beyond the normal standard of care. She truly wants to help get you better and she won't give up!
